Our 'man in Bosnia' has been at it again - with some more very tempting nymphs - especially tied for success in the winter.
We try to plan all of our fly selection at least 3 months in advance, when asked what we were planning for winter fishing, we wanted to do something a little different, so we asked him to surprise us and tie something which he would use himself, in Bosnia during winter.
His reply was "I will tie you 4 secret patterns, which are the first nymphs I try on any river" - this had us intrigued, as we had no photos to go on, so we trusted his judgement and said, "go for it". The first time we saw these was when they were delivered to on Friday morning - we were impressed!

Here's a little more detail on each of the flies contained within the selection:
The Magic Nymph - This nymph is ideal when the visibility is low and you need something to spark a little interest. Tied on an Ahrex FW551 Size 16 Jig hook with a 3.5mm silver-coloured tungsten bead. For the tails, Kenan’s used Coq de Leon fibres, these add natural movement to the fly. For the body thread, Kenan used Veevus Fluoro Yellow Chartreuse 12/0. And for body ribbing, Magic Quills by Gaga Flies. The nymph also needs to have a little movement added. Kenan’s choice is an olive-dyed hare mask. All topped off with a Veevus Fluoro Orange hot spot.
The Hare's Crawler - We’ve all tried to ‘match the hatch’ and turned over rocks in the river. You will have often seen the ‘stone clingers’, this nymph is tied to imitate exactly those. The main features of this nymph are the large ribbing and feelers on the sides of the body. Kenan’s choice is to use a natural hare's ear on the body and Wapsi biots for covering the body. This nymph needs to quickly get to the bottom so it has been tied with a 3.5mm tungsten bead, to add even more weight it has been ribbed with tungsten wire. To top off this outstanding fly Kenan’s added a Veevus Orange hot spot.
The Purple Death Jig - Grayling are known for having a liking to the colour pink - but they are also very well-known for taking nymphs which incorporate the colour purple. This nymph is tied with a.Gold-coloured 3.5mm tungsten bead and Veevus 6/0 Lavender tag, Hends purple 0.9mm wire and a mix of dubbing for the body. All topped off with a hackle tied with grade-1 CdC to make this nymph ultra-realistic when fished.
The Black Hare's Ear - A slight update on one of the most successful nymphs of all time. Tied on an Ahrex FW551 jig hook in a size 16, with a copper-coloured tungsten size 3.5 mm bead. A Coq de Leon tail, Cooper ribbing and natural Hare's Ear mask for the body. For the main thread on this nymph, Kenan used Veevus GSP 30D in black. Adding Veevus Flat braid to make the thorax cover and then covering with Raidzap Flex UV glue (in Black), finishes this fly off.
