The barbless Gammarus Selection, as the freshwater shrimp forms the basis of the Trout & Grayling's diet, we thought we had better produce a selection for use on those small streams and rivers we all love to fish. In total there are 16 flies supplied in our eco-friendly packaging. All of these flies are hand-tied using barbless hooks, in sizes 14 and 18 using quality materials.
Freshwater shrimp make up a significant portion of the diet of trout in our rivers and streams here in the UK. Freshwater shrimp may not be the main food source every day but they do makeup over 60% of the annual diet of the trout and grayling.
The freshwater shrimp is found in our rivers throughout the year, making these patterns one of the first to try on any new river. These patterns should be fished close to the river bed (hence the integrated beads to weigh the fly), and dead drifted (shrimps do not swim against the flow of the river). These are ideal patterns to use in shallow water, close to weed beds.

Olive Shrimp. A standard shrimp pattern, tied in Olive with a central copper bead. A shell-back is then added and secured with wraps of copper wire. This selection contains two each of sizes 14 & 18.
Olive Hot-Spot Shrimp. An olive shrimp pattern with an added hackle (facing towards the point of the hook - this is good in weed), tied in Olive with a central orange "Hot-Spot" bead. A clear shell-back is then added and secured with wraps of copper wire. This selection contains two each of sizes 14 & 18.
Hot-Spot Spider Shrimp. A tan shrimp pattern with a sparse black hackle tied around the middle of the hook shank (just before the bead), tied in tan with a central orange "Hot-Spot" bead. A clear shell-back is then added and secured with wraps of thread. This selection contains two each of sizes 14 & 18.
Infected Shrimp. A tan shrimp pattern with an orange "Hot-Spot" bead tied in the middle of the hook shank. An orange "Hot-Spot" shell-back is then added and secured with wraps of orange thread. This selection contains two each of sizes 14 & 18.
